INTRODUCTORY REMARKS: Despite reports of blizzard conditions in West Virginia and ski resorts opening in North Carolina, the Adirondacks stayed on the mild side of Sandy - mild temps, wind, and rain at least so far. While Columbus Day weekend and afterwards saw some snow and slippery conditions above 3,500 feet, that snow and ice has melted with warm temperatures (for late October) predicted to continue for this first weekend in November. Thus no skiing and no need for traction aids until the weather cools.
