NTRODUCTORY REMARKS: It's all good everywhere for the most part. Some backcountry trails are still a little rocky in certain parts like the wright peak ski trail approach. Be careful of avalanche danger and be smart!

We have had a few flurries, and the ground is even white in places, but only a mix of precipitation is predicted for the weekend followed by temperatures near 40 and rain on Monday. After that it does cool off a bit, but still no season-starting storm in sight. Hikers will need traction aids - especially above 2,500 feet - but no snowshoes yet unless the mix predicted for the valleys turns out to be a major storm up high. Be prepared for winter conditions on the higher summits, and remember that it is dark before 5 PM.

Monday will be in the 40s and Tuesday in the 50s before cooling off later in the week with some chance of snow showers. Thus, I hope everyone got out and skied, as it looks like it will be a while before we can ski again. Next update on Wednesday, 12/5 when we know if there is any snow possible by the weekend.
Paul Smith's VIC: 15 km of trails, open daily, rentals, 518-523-6241, www.adirondackvic.org Base Depth - Inches New Snow - Surface Conditions - Km Open - Km Tracked - Remarks - INTRODUCTORY REMARKS: After a week of cold weather and occasional snow showers, we have 3-4" of light snow on the ground including 1-2" that fell Thursday night. With no base, skiing is pretty much limited to the golf courses. There would be enough snow to ski the Whiteface Highway, but the Highway will apparently continue to be plowed for another one to two weeks while a new back up generator is installed for the equipment on the summit. There is 6-8" of snow in Paul Smiths and the smoother trails at the VIC are skiable. Hays Brook Truck Trail is also thin but skiable.
Saturday will remain cold, but it is predicted to warm up starting Sunday with rain showers and temperatures in the 40s now predicted through Wednesday. Ski it while you can!
