Final tally in two feet in Keene, 18-20 inches in Lake Placid, and 15-18 in Saranac Lake and west. The entire storm was relatively dense powder. So it will make a great base, but trail breaking will be difficult and turning on the steeper downhills will also be more difficult than usual. Additionally, the heavy snow has bent over many trees into the trails with branches and the occasional downed tree in the way as well.
With this snow, every popular backcountry route has sufficient cover, including Marcy, Wright, and other steeper, rougher trails that often haven't been in good shape until later in the season. The Old Mountain Road section of the Jackrabbit Trail has been broken out as has Wright Peak and Avalanche Pass. Tracks reported heading for Marcy from Marcy Dam. These are just the reports we have at the moment, so stay tuned or post a comment.
Van Hoevenberg and Cascade are grooming and will be in full or nearly full operation this weekend.
