INTRODUCTORY REMARKS: After Monday's record-setting warm temperatures, a cold front came through with mostly rain but finished with some snow from 2,000 feet and up. Unfortunately, even at 3,500 feet there isn't enough to ski even the Whiteface Highway, so it's a weekend for hiking. The weather will be fair with no snow or rain in sight through the early part of next week. Given the rain on Monday night and the cold nights and cool days, expect a lot of ice on all the hiking trails. Traction aids will practically be mandatory for any ascents of the higher peaks.
