Winter To Make Appearance in Adirondacks This Weekend

3/1/2018

Reports are pouring into the BETA office, indicating that "Winter" might be making a quick stop in the eastern High Peaks region this weekend, possibly arriving as early as tonight.    This will be Winter's first appearance in the area in some time.

So-called "experts" say that Winter may be traveling with "snow" on this brief visit.  In case you're unfamiliar with the term, "snow" is atmospheric water vapor frozen into ice crystals which falls in light white flakes and sometimes lies on the ground as a white layer.  Possibly 3-6 inches of "snow" will be left behind when Winter leaves town again on Sunday.

From what we've heard this "snow" substance is necessary for "skiing" - a strange activity in which people strap long, slender runners made of wood, plastic and/or metal to their feet for the purpose of sliding on snow.  Sounds pretty crazy to us but apparently its all the rage in these parts.

We'll keep you posted as this story develops...

Been waiting all winter for this ... living in southeast Pennsylvania, it’s not like I can take advantage of brief good conditions at spur of the moment and it doesn’t seem like those good conditions last very long ... really appreciate your reports so I can make the best of the time I can get away ... and I’ve been waiting far too long for THIS report !!! Thank you again for your time and effort ... just wish you had a bit of control over the elements ...

Excellent wit...when life hands you lemons, make...snow! I love and appreciate your reports as well...it's a 4 hr. drive for me to Cascade (great trails, friendly folks, local microbrews, roaring fire) and it's one of the high points of my winter! Maybe we'll have a great March!
